"It seems to me that man has always been crooked, with values suspended and forever in flux. I humbly present to you a crooked body, a crooked dance. It is not ballet, it is not of any contemporary technique, it is not Oriental dance, it is not Brazilian dance, it is a dance without roots." Eduardo Fukushima on Crooked Man
Eduardo Fukushima’s work follows a line of investigation that starts from gesture and movement. In this performance, Fukushima is accompanied by live electronic music created especially to complement the movement by Tom Monteiro.
Crooked Man was created by Brazilian dancer and choreographer Eduardo Fukushima, following a year-long mentorship with Cloud Gate Dance founder Lin Hwai-min as part of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative.
The evening also includes a special solo created and performed by Eleanor Sikorski. Sweating from the start, Sikorski welcomes the audience into a pump-tastic world in which heart racing is a sport, and handshakes are worth fighting for.
