This event marks the beginning of my journey as a Torchlight Artist at Siobhan Davies Dance. It begins to share my questions about dancing as an act of surrender and about the wisdom existing in the afterward of dancing.

To start planning and formulating working process, earlier this year I convened a group of fellow dancers together at Siobhan Davies Studios for an uninterrupted period of 24 hours. We stayed in the studios together overnight, cooked and ate together, beginning to articulate together the unique experience of the dancer performer. The group organized it and structured it together and invited some friends to breakfast in the morning.

I’m beginning to make my questions public by inviting one of the dancers present at that gathering, Susanna Recchia, to join me in a conversation that is sourced by some of the material that arose in those precious hours. This dialogue will unfold through talking and dancing together and then through questions and simple structures that can involve all those present in the room.

Katye Coe is a Torchlight Artist 2018/19 at Siobhan Davies Dance, produced by Siobhan Davies Dance in collaboration with Dance4, Sadler's Wells and Independent Dance.

The Torchlight Artists Programme foregrounds artists’ research in dance and choreography. For a year, each artist will focus on a topic at the core of their practice, deepening and expanding their investigation with the support of our resources and networks. The artists will instigate encounters and events to feed their research and share with our audiences, colleagues and communities.  We aim to promote learning for all about dance and choreography’s capacity for deep, wide-ranging inquiry.
